Obtaining and processing of personal data

We obtain personal data directly from our members, supporters, and people who interact with us. We process personal data to fulfil our legitimate activities as a trade union branch. This includes organising, campaigning, communicating internally and externally, holding branch meetings, financial and supplier management. We might also process personal data for other purposes, such as complying with legal obligations. In all cases of data processing we comply with CWU policy.

You should consult the CWU Privacy Policy for details regarding the processing of personal data.

When we might disclose your data

To ensure that we can fulfil our legitimate activities as a trade union branch, we may disclose your personal data to our committee members, organisers, representatives, suppliers or subcontracts as is necessary to fulfil those activities, and only in accordance with CWU policy. We might also share personal data for other purposes, such as defending legal claims. In all cases of data sharing, we comply with CWU policy.

We only share data with trusted organisations who adhere to their data protection obligations and meet an adequate level of information security.

We will never sell your data.

Transferring data outside of the UK

So that we can meet our purposes as a trade union branch, we might use some suppliers who are located outside of the UK. In each case, we ensure that our suppliers provide adequate protection and security for personal data. We use safeguards that are deemed to provide an adequate level of data protection by the Information Commissioner’s Office in each case.

Keeping your personal data secure

UTAW is committed to processing and storing data with appropriate technical and organisational measures to safeguard the rights of data subjects.

UTAW stores data on servers that are housed in a secure environment. We only share data with organisations that are committed to a similar level of data protection. All our procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure their effectiveness.
